“One for the road”

, ,

“One for the road” used to mean a final drink before setting off.

These days? It means a final trip to the bathroom.

This is the quiet, unspoken ritual of adulthood: before you grab your bag and stride toward whatever awaits — work, dinner, travel, or glory — you pause.
Not for drama. Not for doubt. For practicality.

Because gone are the days of reckless spontaneity.
Now, departures come with a checklist:

  • Keys? Check.
  • Wallet? Check.
  • Glasses? Of course.
  • Dignity? Still hanging on.
  • Bathroom? Yes — one last time, just in case.

It is not a sign of weakness. It is a sign of wisdom. You have learned, through mild discomfort and near-misses, that adventure may call… but the bladder always whispers first.

And so, you take five more minutes; the world can wait. The road will still be there.
And you?
You will be travelling lighter, smarter — and far more relaxed.
