This is an Italian viewpoint on yesterday’s diplomatic event.
While many of you know that I do not always align with every citation I share, I fully agree with this one.

One can say whatever one likes about Volodymyr Zelensky, but the way in which he stood his ground this evening—without ever raising his voice or giving in to provocation—facing down a shouting, menacing gangster and his henchman, who did everything in their power to humiliate, insult, and intimidate him before ultimately trying to force him into signing a one-sided, exploitative contract, is precisely what defines a leader.
That is what a true politician and the President of an occupied nation should be: someone who has never bowed—neither before the Russian tyrant in the past nor, least of all, now before the American billionaire.
And this is something that, in our lands of servile submission, flattery, and cheerleading, we had almost forgotten even existed.
Everyone is free to think what they like about Zelensky, even to criticise him—of course, he is not beyond reproach.
But tonight, for the way he stood firm in the face of a globally broadcast attack from the most powerful and dangerous man in the world, it is impossible—simply unthinkable—not to acknowledge his immense dignity and to stand, with mind, heart, and even gut, on the side of Volodymyr Zelensky against the new master of the world.
Let someone here take note.
