Each man lives to rise or fall before the challenges set in his path.
Fate brings trials; it is reason and will that must respond.
To rise is not triumph, nor is to fall disgrace.
What matters is how we endure the test.
And we must take care:
“He who fights with monsters must be careful not to become one.
And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into you.”
(The Notes from Madness, Friedrich Nietzsche)
To confront darkness without being darkened — that is the deeper trial.
To remain just in the midst of injustice.
To stay whole in a world that fractures.
To keep a clear conscience, even when the abyss looks back.
This is how we are judged:
Not by applause, nor by outcome, but by the integrity of our actions — by the extent to which they remain true to principle.
